Meet Jason Matthews, an esteemed partner at BlueWater Strategies, LLC. Jason brings a wealth of legislative experience, most of which he accrued on Capitol Hill during his 13-year tenure on Senator Mary Landrieu’s staff, eventually rising to the position of Chief of Staff. Known for his legislative acumen, integrity, and effectiveness, Jason is esteemed by colleagues across both political spectrums.
Throughout his career, Jason was deeply involved in pivotal legislation and initiatives, such as the Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA), the National Energy Infrastructure Security Program Establishment Act, and a variety of energy and natural resource issues specific to Louisiana.
Before joining the BlueWater team, Jason served as the Director of Public Policy and Government Relations at ECPAT-USA, the nation's leading anti-trafficking policy organization. His legislative expertise also found him representing corporate giants such as the U.S Chamber of Commerce and BP America. As a federal lobbyist for the Chamber, he spearheaded financial services lobbying efforts during the enactment of the Dodd-Frank banking reform bill and pioneered the Native American Enterprise Institute, marking the Chamber's inaugural structured outreach to the Native American business community.
At BP America, Jason led government relations for BP’s North American Gas trading division and represented the company's offshore business in the Gulf of Mexico. His portfolio also encompassed BP’s wind and remediation management efforts.
An active member of the community, Jason serves on the board of directors for the American Council of Young Political Leaders and the Dietz Foundation, and also on the Advisory Committee of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute.
A native of Southern California, Jason completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Redlands and obtained his law degree from Southern Illinois University. He commenced his career with the Illinois General Assembly’s Legislative Research Unit, laying a solid foundation for his successful career in legislative work.
